01 — About us

Who is GreenGay?

Our mission
Manifesto • Queer + Green

We believe saving the planet should be as joyful, diverse and sexy as we are.

greengay.org was born from a simple idea: LGBTQ+ community has always known how to create chosen families, safe spaces and vibrant culture from nothing. Now we use that superpower for ecology. We turn rooftops into gardens, parades into climate marches, clubs into solar hubs, and loneliness into belonging.

From Berlin to Barcelona, from Warsaw to San Francisco — our local chapters organize clean-ups, seed swaps, vegan picnics, queer hiking, eco-drag shows and free education about sustainable queer living. No preaching, no guilt — just action, glitter and green impact.

02 — Mission & values

Rooted in pride, growing for planet

🌈

Radical Inclusion

Lesbian, gay, bi, trans, queer, intersex, asexual — plus every ally who loves Earth. No one is too queer, too green, too new to join. Accessibility, anti-racism and care are our soil.

🌱

Joyful Sustainability

Forget boring eco-guilt. We make zero-waste sexy: clothing swaps as fashion shows, clean-ups as dance parties, vegan BBQ as community ritual. Sustainability that feels like celebration.

🌍

Climate Justice

Queer people, migrants and low-income communities suffer climate crisis first. We fight for fair cities, green housing, clean air and political visibility — pride is protest, green is justice.

🏡

Chosen Family Gardens

We reclaim abandoned lots and rooftops to grow food and friendship. 34 community gardens already feed 5 000 people and host queer youth workshops every week.

⚡

Clean Energy Culture

Solar-powered clubs, bike parades, repair cafés. Our venues run on renewables, our merch is upcycled, our festivals leave forests cleaner than before.

💚

Love as Activism

Every tree planted is a love letter. Every march is a date with the future. We document queer eco stories to inspire the next generation of planet lovers.

07 — FAQ

Questions? Good.

Do I need to be gay to join greengay.org?

Not at all! We are rooted in LGBTQ+ culture but open to everyone who shares our values: kindness, inclusion and care for planet. Allies, families, friends — all green hearts welcome.

Is it free?

Yes, 95% of events are free: hikes, clean-ups, potlucks, swaps. Festivals have solidarity pricing — pay what you can. No one turned away for lack of funds.

How can I start a GreenGay chapter in my city?

Gather 3 friends, pick a green spot, and write to us via the join form below. We provide starter kit: garden tools guide, zero-waste event checklist, posters and mentorship.

What does queer ecology mean?

Queer ecology challenges the idea that nature is only straight and binary. Nature is diverse, fluid and cooperative — just like us. We use queer lens to rethink sustainability beyond stereotypes.
